Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said in an interview with Fox News that any peace agreement in Ukraine may require compromises, including possible territorial swaps, and ultimately will not fully satisfy either side.
“On the negotiating side, you know, there may be territorial swaps. There will be compromises. No one will be completely happy“, Hegseth said, outlining the options for a possible agreement.
When asked if he was concerned about setting a precedent by swapping territories, Hegseth replied: “No, because this is not a war that President Trump started. He did not cause it. It was caused by the weakness of the previous Obama and Biden administrations.“
Hegseth admitted that he might participate in the upcoming meeting between Russian and American Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Alaska.
When asked if he would attend the meeting, Hegseth replied: “I don't know. We'll see what my schedule looks like. Maybe.“
