US President Donald Trump said he will patrol the streets of Washington, D.C., with police and military, after deploying National Guard troops to the nation's capital last week, Reuters reported, quoted by NOVA.
"I think I'll be out tonight with the police and, of course, the military", Trump said in an interview with the "Newsmax" reporter Todd Starnes on his radio show.
A White House official said details of Trump's plans would be released soon.
Trump deployed thousands of National Guard troops and federal agents to the city in an extraordinary exercise of presidential power, citing what he said was a surge in violence.
City officials denied the claim, citing federal and city statistics that show violence has declined significantly since a peak in 2023.
Vice President J.D. Vance and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth visited troops at Union Station, Washington's main train station, on Wednesday, despite protesters gathering at the site, booing and jeering them.
