US President Donald Trump said that he supports the provision of materials in the case of financier Jeffrey Epstein, convicted of child prostitution and other serious crimes of this kind, to Congress by the US Department of Justice.
“Innocent people should not be harmed, but I support complete transparency on this issue. I don't care at all“, said Trump, answering a question about how he feels about the beginning of the transfer of the aforementioned documents from the US Department of Justice to the Oversight and Accountability Committee of the US House of Representatives.
“I don't know anything about it. But I told the attorney general and everyone else to give the lawmakers everything they can,” the US leader added, speaking about the release of information.
“There could be a lot of people in this material who don’t deserve it,“ Trump added. “He knew everybody in Palm Beach,“ he said of Epstein, the Florida town where Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate is located.
Trump added that some details surrounding the Epstein case had been fabricated by Democrats for political purposes. “This whole Epstein situation is a fabrication by the Democrats,“ he said.
The House Oversight and Accountability Committee said on August 5 that it was seeking testimony from 42nd US President Bill Clinton, his wife Hillary and a number of former US secretaries of state in the Epstein case. The committee, which is currently controlled by Republicans, has asked the US Department of Justice to disclose information related to the Epstein case by August 19. This applies to any related correspondence between the aforementioned department, the 46th US President Joe Biden, and any of his administration officials.
