Moscow has requested an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council on August 26 to discuss the attacks on the Nord Stream pipeline, Russia's First Deputy Permanent Representative to the World Organization Dmitry Polyansky announced in his Telegram channel.

„In connection with new information that has emerged about the detention of a suspect in organizing terrorist attacks on the Nord Stream pipeline in September 2022, Russia has requested an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council. We will draw attention to the delays in the German investigation and the lack of transparency for the Security Council. The Panamanian presidency of the Security Council has scheduled it for 4:00 p.m. New York time (23:00 Bulgarian time) on August 26“, he wrote.

The explosions on the “Nord Stream“ and “Nord Stream 2“ occurred on September 26, 2022. Germany, Denmark and Sweden do not rule out sabotage. The operator Nord Stream AG reported that the destruction was unprecedented and it is impossible to estimate the time for repairs. The Prosecutor General's Office has opened a case for an act of international terrorism. Moscow has repeatedly requested data on the explosions, but has never received them.

On Thursday, Italian carabinieri, at the request of the German prosecutor's office, arrested 49-year-old Ukrainian Sergei Kuznetsov in the province of Rimini, who was probably the coordinator of sabotage on gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea. Speaking about the man's role in the terrorist attack, Corriere della Sera wrote that he was the captain of the yacht “Andromeda” which was used to transport explosives.

The suspect was detained when he arrived in Italy on holiday with his family. Security forces learned about the wanted man after he checked into a hotel.
Sergey was likely tracked down after he used his Ukrainian passport to buy plane tickets to Poland and book a room.

According to local media, the Ukrainian faces up to 15 years in prison after extradition to Germany. He has already found a lawyer and, since he does not speak Italian, will be assisted by a translator.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Kuznetsov is a captain in the reserve of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and served in the Security Service of Ukraine - SBU. It is believed that he and other servicemen were recruited in May 2022 to carry out the sabotage. Following the arrest of the Ukrainian, described as a former secret service agent, Italian media reported that they were investigating his involvement in another major incident with Ukrainian links - the explosions of an oil tanker in Savona in February. The attack was allegedly directed against a “shadow fleet“ under a foreign flag that was transporting oil of Russian origin.
