Venezuela has released 13 dissidents from prison, DPA reported, quoted by BTA, citing opposition figure and former presidential candidate Henrique Capriles.

Some of those released from prison have been placed under house arrest, Capriles wrote today on the Ex platform.

Government opponents were detained around the presidential elections in Venezuela in July last year, which the opposition and the international community described as rigged.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, who has been in power since 2013, was declared the winner by the electoral commission, considered loyal to the regime, giving him another six-year term.

For years, Venezuela's security forces have been carrying out repression against members of the opposition, recalls DPA.

According to the non-governmental organization “Foro Penal“, more than 800 political prisoners remain behind bars in the South American country.

Ecuadorian authorities have seized a "large shipment" of explosives being transported in transit from Peru to Colombia and intended for "terrorist acts", Ecuadorian police announced, quoted by Agence France-Presse, quoted by BTA.

Law enforcement authorities confiscated 3,750 boxes of explosives and 25,000 meters of detonating cord in an operation that led to the arrest of two Ecuadorians. This comes after a truck bomb attack in southwestern Colombia on Thursday killed six people.
