UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned Russia's deadly missile and drone attacks on Ukraine, the world organization's spokesman Stephane Dujarric said, Reuters reported, BTA reported.
Guterres again called for a ceasefire that would lead to a peace "that fully respects the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine," Dujarric said.
US special envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg also condemned the Russian attack carried out overnight today, saying it undermines Donald Trump's peace efforts, Reuters reported.
"These brutal attacks threaten the peace that @POTUS is striving for," Kellogg wrote in platform "Ex".
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that she spoke by phone today with the presidents of Ukraine and the United States, Volodymyr Zelensky and Donald Trump, following the Russian strikes on Kiev last night, in which, according to the latest data from the authorities in the Ukrainian capital, at least 18 people were killed, including at least four children, DPA reported, BTA reports.
Zelensky said, for his part, quoted by Reuters, that he and von der Leyen had discussed ways to stop the war in Ukraine through diplomatic channels.
“But until Russia takes real steps to achieve peace, the pressure on it must be increased" the Ukrainian president wrote on "Telegram".
""Putin must come to the negotiating table", Von der Leyen urged in turn in "Ex" after her talks with Zelensky and Trump.
“We must ensure a just and lasting peace for Ukraine, as well as reliable security guarantees that will turn the country into a steel hedgehog. Europe will fully play its role," she stressed.
