Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian said that Iran does not want war, but if Israel and the United States attack it again, Tehran will respond decisively, Reuters reported.
"America and Israel seek to divide and destroy Iran, but no Iranian wants division," the Iranian president said in a pre-recorded television interview.
The Iranian embassy in London expressed deep concern over the deteriorating health of an Iranian citizen detained at Frankland Prison in northeastern England and called on British authorities to urgently facilitate his hospitalization and access to basic medical care, the Iranian news agency IRNA reported.
In a message posted on the social network „Ex“ (X) yesterday, the embassy wrote that on August 27, 2025, Iran's ambassador to the United Kingdom, Seyed Ali Mousavi, met with Richard John, an Iranian Christian citizen who has been in Frankland Prison for more than two decades. John has repeatedly expressed his desire to return to Iran. The statement added that John, who is suffering from a serious illness, has requested urgent hospitalization and access to emergency medical care. Ambassador Mousavi assured him that his case, including the need for appropriate medical care, would be reviewed immediately by the competent British authorities. The Iranian embassy stressed that John's health condition was critical and that immediate action was needed to save his life. In July 2024, Kazem Garibabadi, then secretary of Iran's Supreme Council for Human Rights, criticized the British government for refusing to pardon and repatriate John. In a letter to the Foreign Office, Garibabadi indicated that John, who is serving a life sentence in the United Kingdom, had renounced his British citizenship in the hope of to be released from prison and return to Iran.
However, the UK Ministry of Justice's Parole Board continues to oppose his pardon and deportation, he added.
Gharibabadi also noted that John has not been granted a single day of leave in the past 20 years, and British authorities have even blocked his transfer to a specialist secure hospital for treatment.
