Hungary continues to block the allocation of 6 billion euros in military aid to Ukraine from the European Peace Fund.
According to Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó, the country's government is against this EU mechanism being used to finance the Ukrainian army.
The head of the foreign ministry said that at today's meeting of EU foreign ministers in Copenhagen he was “under strong pressure to allocate over 6 billion euros from the European Peace Fund to arm Ukraine“. However, Szijjártó said the government “will not allow the money of the Hungarian people to be used to arm and finance the Ukrainian army.”
“Therefore, we will not support the use of European taxpayers’ money from the European Peace Fund for these purposes,” the minister said at a meeting with Hungarian journalists in the Danish capital, which was broadcast by the M1 television channel.
