Police made arrests at a rally in support of the pro-Palestinian movement Palestine Action in London, the „Guardian“ newspaper reported, without specifying the exact number of detainees. The demonstration was held in Parliament Square opposite the Palace of Westminster, with over a thousand people participating.
On July 5, the Palestine Action movement was added to the list of organizations banned in the UK, at the suggestion of the then Home Secretary Yvette Cooper. Her initiative was supported by both houses of parliament. Membership in this organization, participation in its meetings and any form of support for its activities became a crime. The penalty is a maximum of 14 years in prison. Since the banning of the organization, hundreds of people have been arrested at protests in support of the organization across the country. More than 114 of those arrested have been charged with violating the Terrorism Act.
Another protest is taking place in London on Saturday, the National March for Palestine. It is being organized by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign. Demonstrators set off from Russell Square, located near the British Museum, to the sound of drums and headed towards the residence of Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
