The Spanish Parliament has rejected the government's proposal to reduce the working week from 40 to 37.5 hours. After the vote against the project, the text must be revised by the government before it returns to the chamber, Spanish media reported, News.bg reports.
As expected, representatives of Carles Puigdemont's "Together" party voted against the texts.
The proposal of the Spanish Ministry of Labor, submitted by the leader of "Sumar" Yolanda Díaz, aimed to reduce the working week from 40 to 37.5 hours. If passed, the bill would continue its parliamentary procedure, then be considered in the Senate, the upper house of Spain, and subsequently promulgated.
The reduction of the working week is part of the coalition agreement between the Socialists and the left-wing coalition “Sumar“ and has the support of the unions. At the same time, business associations oppose the measure.
The rejection of the texts represents a serious blow to the ambitions of Deputy Prime Minister Yolanda Díaz. Reducing the working week without a change in pay was one of the main changes that she sought to impose in the legislation, and it was precisely with this goal that she tied her entry into government.
