Poland has imposed restrictions on air traffic along its eastern border with Belarus and Ukraine amid heightened tensions after several drones entered its airspace, Reuters reported, citing the operational command of the Polish Armed Forces, BTA reports.
Yesterday morning, Poland, with the support of aircraft from NATO allies, shot down suspected Russian drones.
“At the request of the operational command of the Armed Forces … air traffic restrictions will be introduced in the eastern part of Poland“, the Polish Air Navigation Agency announced in a statement published late at night.
The restrictions came into effect at 01:00 this morning and will be in effect until December 9. From sunrise to sunset, flights in the zone are prohibited, except for manned aircraft with appropriate flight plans and transponders that maintain two-way communication with air authorities.
Military aircraft and some special flights are exempt from the ban. However, from sunset to sunrise, a complete ban has been introduced for all flights, except military ones. Drone flights are completely prohibited.
The Russian Defense Ministry said yesterday that Russian drones had attacked military facilities in western Ukraine, but assured that strikes against targets in Poland were not planned.
