The UK has announced a new package of sanctions against Russia, targeting ships transporting Russian oil, as well as companies and individuals supplying Moscow with electronics, chemicals and explosives used to produce weapons, Reuters reports, BTA reports.
The measures are in response to increased Russian drone and missile strikes against Ukraine in recent months and the violation of NATO airspace over Poland earlier this week, the British government said.
“International action to increase economic pressure on Russia and cut off the vital cash flows it desperately needs to fund this illegal war is crucial,“ Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper said on her first visit to Kiev. She stressed that the sanctions were the “next stage” in the UK's efforts to increase economic pressure on Moscow alongside security support for Ukraine.
The new restrictions cover 70 ships used to transport Russian oil, as well as 30 companies and individuals linked to supplying the Russian military. These include companies from China and Turkey, which London claims supply equipment for Russian weapons systems.
