< strong>„With common efforts we can fight for change. “The Little People” with achondroplasia and skeletal dysplasias deserve to live with dignity and realize their potential, to be heard. We must all stand up for the rights and dignity of people with rare diseases, especially those with skeletal dysplasias, across Europe.“

This was stated by the head of the Delegation of the Bulgarian Socialists in the EP, Christian Vigenin, in Brussels to the Alliance of Skeletal Dysplasias, uniting representative organizations of people from different countries in Europe. He hosted the annual meeting of the organizations from Bulgaria, Finland, France, Holland, Slovakia, Spain, Great Britain and Norway.

Skeletal dysplasia is a genetic disease. It is caused by a defect in a specific gene. The disease itself is relatively rare, but is a major cause of dwarfism as well as various skeletal deformities.

Christian Vigenin noted with alarm: “Although inclusion is a core European value, the needs of this group are often neglected both socially and clinically. I urge politicians, especially those in the European Commission, to take into account the voice of people with skeletal dysplasias when making policies and programmes.“

The head of the Delegation of Bulgarian Socialists proposed concrete actions: conducting campaigns to increase awareness and public acceptance and inclusion of the little people, creating accessibility policies to prevent their exclusion and conducting research and medical therapies.< /p>

Kristian Vigenin did not hide his joy that the Bulgarian representatives are among the most active in the Alliance. “ I will continue to work for a better quality of your life, as well as on the specific initiatives we have adopted. Already at the adoption of the budget for 2025. I will insist that more funds be allocated to your community”, concluded the MEP.
