Votes of no confidence in a democracy are the nuclear button of the opposition - they should be used when there is some chance of overthrowing the government. This was commented on "Panorama" on BNT by Interior Minister Daniel Mitov.
"We saw some very strange amalgam of unproven claims, including formulations such as: "it is said that", "media publications say". It turned out that the government should be responsible for cases from last year, from 10 years ago - it was some kind of compilation in general. Like a Facebook post with troll comments".
According to him, the opposition's motives are untenable, and it is engaged in labeling. When asked by the host whether Delyan Peevski had not confirmed the motives of the vote with his words that "everything depends on him", Mitov replied:
"Why should he have confirmed it? It is obvious - this government in the format of the GERB, ITN, BSP coalition does not have a majority. Without "DPS - New Beginning" there is obviously no majority in parliament to support this government".
When asked whether he had rushed and politicized the case of the beaten police chief in Ruse, the minister stated that politicization is not a lie.
"If they accuse me of politicization, let them accuse me of that, not of lying. Talking about institutions, which is very often unfounded, beyond normality, to talk constantly about crumbling institutions, to present every traffic accident as some kind of apocalypse".
Asked about the proposal for the National Transportation Safety Board to stop transporting employees from the presidential administration, Daniel Mitov commented that Rumen Radev "does not stay within the powers given to him by the Constitution":
"He speaks as a party leader and uses the presidential rostrum as a platform, which leads to the natural question of whether he, like other presidents in the future, will not be inclined to abuse their position and try to blackmail the executive branch and institutions".
Who is responsible for the state being written with a capital "D"? All of us, Daniel Mitov believes.
"First, let's stop insulting our institutions, second, let's start talking to each other normally, with arguments. Let's respect our state, because it will not start being written with a capital "D" - one that everyone believes in and wants to live in, if everyone, I mean both the citizens and the government, does not understand that we need to change our attitude towards each other".
The minister expressed condolences to the family of the deceased policeman during a protest in Sofia:
"Unfortunately, in our opinion, this could have happened at any moment and I suggest that this should not be politicized in any way and included in any such context. We should not exercise political influence over the Ministry of Interior".
