A Bulgarian citizen has been detained by the authorities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed, BTA reported.

At the moment, her name and additional details about her identity have not been reported.

According to preliminary information received at the Embassy of Bulgaria in Moscow, the detention is due to suspicion of committing a crime under Art. 159, para. 3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. This is a case of fraud through fraud or abuse of trust.

"The embassy is monitoring the development of the case and is in contact with the competent Russian institutions and the relatives of the detainee," the ministry said.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not specify whether they had made an inquiry about the other Bulgarian citizens who were reported to be detained in Russia.

A few days ago, the media spread unofficial information according to which a 24-year-old student from Bulgaria was detained in Russia on charges of fraud, BNT reported.

Separately from this case, the name of 31-year-old Daniela Zlatomirova Kehayova from Haskovo appeared on the Federal Financial Monitoring Service's list of organizations and individuals for whom there is information that they are connected to extremist activity or terrorism. There is no further information on the list against her name and nationality - it does not state the reason for her being there, whether she resides in Russia permanently, or her place of residence.
