The Council of Electronic Media has frozen the competition for the new head of BNT

This is due to a decision of the Administrative Court in Sofia following a complaint by Sasho Yovkov, received two days before the Council announced which of the candidates in the new competition were admitted. The members of the Council noted that he is also a candidate in the current competition, but wants the old procedure to be returned.

The competition for a new director general of the Bulgarian National Television (BNT) is frozen. This was announced by the Chairperson of the Council for Electronic Media (CEM) Simona Veleva at today's meeting, BTA reports.

This is due to a decision of the Administrative Court in Sofia following a complaint by Sasho Yovkov, received two days before the Council announced which of the candidates in the new competition were admitted. The members of the Council noted that he is also a candidate in the current competition, but wants the old procedure to be returned.

The procedure is being frozen, not canceled, Veleva specified. She stated that the Council will appeal the court's decision within seven days.

As BTA wrote, five candidates have submitted documents for the position of Director General of the Bulgarian National Television to the Council for Electronic Media. These are Svilena Dimitrova, Emil Koshlukov, Sasho Yovkov, Nevena Andonova and Milena Milotinova, the regulator announced. The names of those admitted to the procedure were to be announced by October 2, and those who will be heard by October 9. The new Director General of the public television was expected to be elected on October 16.
