Simeon Stavrev, PP-DB: The state refuses to complete six kilometers of the Sofia Ring Road

It's time for RIA to do its job

Municipal councilor from PP-DB Simeon Stavrev and the mayor of Ovcha Kupel Angel Stefanov are launching a signature and petition for the completion of the last six kilometers of the Sofia Ring Road. In an official letter to the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works, the Agency for Road Infrastructure and Sofia Municipality, the two call on RIA to publicly engage and allocate the necessary budget funds for the completion of the Ring Road from ul. “Lazurna“ and ul. “Kievska“ to the “Struma“ highway.

“State institutions cannot abdicate from extremely important infrastructure sites such as the six kilometers of the Sofia Ring Road between “Tsar Boris III“ Blvd. and “Struma“ Motorway. It is time for the RIA to finally do its job”, Stavrev is categorical.

The representative of “Yes, Bulgaria” reminds that the Sofia Ring Road connects four highways - Trakia, Hemus, Struma and Europe, but money for its completion has not been found to this day. In contrast, for the completion of the “Hemus” highway in the Veliko Tarnovo - Shumen section, advances worth tens, and perhaps hundreds of millions, have been paid, even though there is no parcel plan for some sections, the expropriation has not been completed and there is no construction permit.

“The Court of Auditors has reported that 800 million leva were paid by the state company “Automagistrali“ to private companies without clear rules, on road sections for which there is not even a construction permit. This includes parts of Hemus”, Stavrev states.

The municipal councilor adds that there are no obstacles on the part of the Sofia Municipality or the Sofia Municipal Council to completing this part of the Ring Road. As early as May 2024, the completion of the section was included in the detailed development plan of Sofia, and a report by Simeon Stavrev and the district mayor Angel Stefanov guaranteed the expropriation of the necessary properties to complete the construction.

“The load on this section is currently higher than the average for a highway, and traffic jams are a daily occurrence. This last part of the Ring Road will also serve the future National Children's Hospital”, concludes Stavrev.
