The upcoming December will be one of the most dynamic winter months in the last 15 years, according to weather model analyses. According to experts from Meteo Balkans, the behavior of the polar vortex and early stratospheric warming will be the main factors that will dictate the weather in our country.

"This December 2025 will be one of the most interesting and dynamic winter months in the last 15 years for Bulgaria", states the Meteo Balkans forecast.

The first ten days (December 1 - 10) will pass under the sign of anticyclonic weather. Precipitation is expected to stop, but temperatures will remain low due to the so-called "dry cold". For the plain areas, and especially for the Danube River, this means persistent fogs and low temperatures between 4 and 7 degrees.

In places where the fogs dissipate, thermometers may show between 10 and 15 degrees. The coldest night for this period is expected after December 5, when the values will drop to minus 8 degrees in the valleys.

The second ten days (December 11 - 20) will bring the real winter change. The polar vortex will split into two parts, which will allow Arctic air to invade Eastern Europe and the Balkans.

The activation of Mediterranean cyclones in combination with cold air will create conditions for rain precipitation, which will turn into snow not only in the mountains, but also in Northwestern Bulgaria and the high fields. Maximum temperatures will drop to 3-5 degrees, and minimums will reach minus 9 degrees in mountainous areas.

The third ten days (December 21 - 31) give hope to winter sports enthusiasts and the festive atmosphere. Historical data and current models show that the probability of a "White Christmas" in 2025 is higher than usual.

At the end of the month, the weather will stabilize in a typical winter mode with a possibility of temperatures down to minus 10 degrees in the plains. For the holidays themselves, the forecast outlines:

Christmas: Cloudy and foggy weather.

New Year: Clear weather without precipitation.

Analysts warn that the snow cover, combined with anticyclonic weather, creates the prerequisites for serious temperature inversions and fog, which are a common occurrence for the Danube Plain.
