"Yes, Bulgaria": The "new" budget continues to lead to disaster

The resignation of the government is already overdue

With the revision of the 2026 budget, an attempt is being made to conceal the problems through facade changes.

This is stated in an official position from „Yes, Bulgaria“ in connection with the revised draft state budget for 2026.

"Total expenditures to GDP in 2026 are 45% of GDP, which is a negative record for the last 25 years. Such a high level of expenditures means a future increase in taxes. In 20226, huge loans are being taken to finance these expenditures, and the next next step will be a change in the entire tax system. It is significant that the increase in taxes and social security contributions has been postponed for the period 2027-2028. In practice, there is only a postponement of the previously announced increases in the tax and social security burden.

There are no reforms and measures for the efficiency of the expenditure side. We from “Yes, Bulgaria” have proposed 30 measures for greater efficiency, effectiveness and economy of expenditure. The authorities are only imitating measures that are half-baked and will have no effect. An example of this is the proposal to reduce vacant staff positions in the administration - the way in which this is proposed is ineffective and shows a reluctance to make real reforms.

The real deficit is over 5%, because it is likely that revenues will not be met and the bad practice of 2025 will be repeated - spending huge sums through public companies. The government plans to borrow around 10 billion euros in 2026, much of which will flow into the economy, and this will lead to increased consumption and an increase in inflation, that is, prices. On average, they will borrow 53.5 million leva per day in 2026!

The Ministry of Finance only predicts a decline in economic growth in 2026, which is an admission that the business environment is deteriorating despite the combined positive effect of Schengen and the eurozone. The deteriorating environment is due to the short-sighted actions of the government and the harassment of small businesses. In 2025, there is a serious decline in industry in Bulgaria compared to the EU average. We do not see adequate measures to support production and competitiveness.

This government has no legitimacy to govern and is putting us at the beginning of a dangerous Romanian scenario.

The resignation of the government is already overdue!".
