I was at the last two protests. I was prompted by the fact that with them we wanted to show that we did not choose this government and we cannot easily and for a long time get used to it. I was prompted by the fact that we saw a very arrogant government.
This was said in “120 minutes“ on BTV by Iva Miteva, a lawyer, twice Speaker of the National Assembly in two parliaments, broadcast by “There is such a people“. “The people showed at this protest that we no longer want to live in ignorance and corruption. We want to transform from a population into a people and we do not want usurpers of power“, she said.
“I think that the ITN crossed a line from which there is no turning back. In my opinion, there is no way forward“, said Iva Miteva.
“When 2021 there was this enormous energy of these people who are currently very angry because they feel betrayed. Back then, it seemed like we were some naive people who thought we could change the rules in the casino. However, it turned out that there are no virtues in the casino. Values are not known, honesty, dignity and conscience are not known. Maybe that's why we all failed and that's why a large part of us left. We saw that there was nothing to do there“, explained Miteva.
“At the protest I saw many honest and uncorrupted people, people with dignity. We need to talk more about honor and dignity, which seem to be absent in our political life lately“, said Miteva.
“As if all this is hidden in the first texts of our Constitution. It begins with “We, the people's representatives“. You see this self-love and self-forgetfulness of the National Assembly. If you look at the constitution of Germany, it begins with dignity. With its respect and protection by the state power. In the constitutions of Spain, Italy, France and the Czech Republic, the first articles are related to the construction of the state as social, legal, democratic, with equality between people. We made a mistake somewhere there“, believes Iva Miteva.
“The text for the caretaker cabinet is borrowed from the constitutions of Greece, Italy and France. However, something is forgotten there, and when the representatives of the people have very carefully discussed each text of these constitutions and have seen the differences – in the end they took a little from here, they took a little from there and nothing came out of our text“, the lawyer also pointed out.
“In Greece and Italy we have a president who is elected by the National Assembly. In Bulgaria, the president and the National Assembly are equal in terms of the fact that they are directly elected. The power of the president lies precisely in this direct election, and therefore the caretaker cabinet is a function of the president and he should have been the leader“, explained Miteva.
In this sense, according to her, it was a mistake to limit the powers of the state cabinet with regard to the appointment of the caretaker cabinet.
„The Greek constitution also provides for this option, including these consultations, which every time we come to them, we wonder why they are being held. In the Greek constitution, we have a distribution of first, second, third terms. If they cannot form a cabinet, then the president convenes consultations of all parliamentary groups so that they can form a cabinet represented by all groups“, said Iva Miteva.
„If this fails, then he already assigns – and here the chairman of the Supreme Court of Cassation or the Court of Auditors is involved – to form a cabinet, but one that is acceptable to all and that will produce fair and transparent elections“, she added.
“Only one thing has been taken from us. We see the ombudsman, the speaker of the parliament, which is a complete absurdity for me, the speaker of the parliament, when we have a separation of powers, and he is at the head of the legislative branch, should we put him at the head of the executive branch as well“, pointed out Iva Miteva.
According to her, this shows the attempt to overthrow the authorities in our country.
