„Over the past year, the Bulgarian Socialist Party has been the social vector in government and has stood for consistent policies in the interest of Bulgarian citizens. This was stated by the MP from the BSP-United Left Iliyan Yonchev to Darik radio, emphasizing that the left has defended key social priorities, including the preservation of the Swiss rule for pensions and the increase in the minimum wage.
According to him, a number of significant results have been achieved, which are to be explained by region within the framework of the election campaign. “BSP has always put the interests of Bulgaria above its narrow party accounts“, Yonchev emphasized.
Among the concrete achievements, he highlighted the exposure of the so-called “houses of horrors“ - illegal hospices, as well as the launch of numerous municipal projects by the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works.
Yonchev also commented on the situation surrounding “Lukoil“, noting that despite the gloomy forecasts, the refinery is operating in full synchrony, and Bulgaria remains the country with the lowest fuel prices in the European Union.
As important national successes, he pointed to the accession to the eurozone, Bulgaria's full membership in Schengen and the elimination of monitoring of our country by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
On the topic of election rules, Iliyan Yonchev stated: “The BSP's position is clear - general changes to the Electoral Code “at 12 without 5“ should not be made. We support the introduction of scanning devices, but this should happen from January 1, 2027,“ he specified. The MP added that in the upcoming elections, voting will probably be held according to the current order - with paper and machines.
Yonchev also commented on President Rumen Radev's entry into the political arena, giving a positive assessment and expressing expectation that this will increase voter turnout.
„Now we expect to hear what his platform will be, what ideas he will propose and what team he will present. We perceive Rumen Radev as a potential partner“, said the MP.
Regarding the internal party agenda, Iliyan Yonchev pointed out that it is not necessary for the BSP to convene a Congress before the elections, given that the National Council has given a positive assessment of the left's participation in the government.
„The most important thing is to come out united before the upcoming vote. There will be a Congress - the question is when. The final decision must be made by the National Council of the party“, concluded Yonchev.
