Restricting the right to vote of Bulgarian citizens is a violation of the Constitution, they stated in a declaration "Continuing the change - Democratic Bulgaria" (PP-DB), read by Nadezhda Yordanova, BTA pointed out.

On November 11, 2024, in this hall, all of us, the deputies of the 51st National Assembly, uttered the following words: "I swear in the name of the Republic of Bulgaria to abide by the Constitution and the laws of the country and in all my actions to be guided by the interests of the people", Yordanova read. Do not break this oath, because what is set to happen in the coming days is precisely that we will step over the Constitution, you will step over the Constitution and violate the interests of the people, she addressed the plenary hall. Because, the deputy added, limiting the right to vote, limiting the democratic rights of Bulgarian citizens is a violation of the Constitution, of the interests of the people.

"What is this political deal, this political price, at which supposedly irreconcilable opponents unite to punish those Bulgarian citizens who think differently from them, who support different views. Then, when by law, you will punish those who think differently, we go back decades. Because then, when the Bulgarian citizen, wherever he is in the world, is prevented from voting, this violates democracy. "You will collectively try to silence the voice of those who think differently," the declaration says.

But we will stand and defend the right of every Bulgarian citizen to vote and have their vote counted correctly, the PP-DB said. We will insist that the rights of people who think like us and those who are our opponents be respected. Because we believe that this is the democratic legal order. Because the rights of Bulgarian citizens are not for sale and cannot be the subject of dark political deals, added Nadezhda Yordanova.

Yesterday, at an extraordinary meeting, the legal committee decided at first reading to have up to 20 sections outside diplomatic missions in countries outside the EU.
