Bulgarian MEP Petar Volgin assessed the report prepared by the Commission for the European Shield for Democracy (EUDS), dedicated to the EU's efforts to combat disinformation. The report proposes the creation of new structures, backed by additional funding, against Russia and China's attempts to dominate the online environment and social networks, and to create beliefs. Here is the opinion of Petar Volgin, representative of “Vazrazhdane“ and the group in the European Parliament “Europe of Sovereign Nations“, which he stated in the commission:
“There is only one meaningful sentence in this 40-page report. This is the sentence that quotes Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights and states that “everyone has the right to freedom of expression“. This sentence must be constantly recalled, because in recent years the main bodies of the European Union have been doing everything possible to destroy all opinions other than politically correct.“
Peter Volgin drew attention to the fact that the report contains numerous recommendations for the creation of new structures and the pouring of millions of euros. “In the name of what? In the name of having fought disinformation. And in fact, the real goal of the so-called. “fighting disinformation“ is to completely eliminate the pluralism of opinions and to create a society copied one to one from Yevgeny Zamyatin's dystopia "We".
Volgin pointed out that the commission's report contains absurd recommendations such as "protect democracy with the help of sanctions". "However, in recent years the European Union has imposed twenty sanctions packages against Russia, and the result of them is exactly the opposite of expectations. Russia and the USA dictate the terms of peace, and the European Union stands with its tail tucked in the corner", Volgin recalled this unpleasant fact and predicted that "the more such reports are produced by European functionaries, the more the European Union will lose its importance".
