Tatyana Doncheva: The Supreme Judicial Council must be replaced as soon as possible

According to her, distrust has reached a level where society refuses to accept acts and actions of the judicial system and the Ministry of Interior, even when they are correct and lawful

“The most serious problem for security and the sense of justice is the critically low trust in the judicial system and the Ministry of Interior.“ This was stated by Tatyana Doncheva, leader of the BSP-OL list in Plovdiv, during a pre-election debate on bTV.

According to her, distrust has reached a level where society refuses to accept acts and actions of the judicial system and the Ministry of Interior, even when they are correct and lawful.

According to Doncheva, the Supreme Judicial Council, whose mandate has long expired, plays a key role in this situation. She emphasized that the institution has lost touch with the real problems in the system. "The Supreme Judicial Council has degenerated into a caste, detached from the people who administer justice, whom it is supposed to represent," she pointed out, adding that the council has demonstrated "complete helplessness" in examining a number of scandals, which creates a feeling of covering up violations. "This Supreme Judicial Council will not achieve any effect - it must be replaced as soon as possible," Doncheva was categorical. According to her, half-hearted decisions, such as appointing an interim administrator to replace Borislav Sarafov, will not lead to any real change in the current composition of the council.

She expressed doubt whether the Supreme Judicial Council should continue to be a permanent body. “This has degenerated into a second Ministry of Justice“, said Doncheva, emphasizing that instead of dealing with the real problems of the system, the SJC pays excessive attention to administrative and budgetary issues.

According to her, the judiciary should dispense justice, instead of its work being measured by a stopwatch. According to her, the pressure on magistrates for quick results only leads to resignations. As a significant factor in the delay of cases, she highlighted the lack of sufficient expertise.

"We cannot expect quick and efficient justice when GERB has been appointing devoted magistrates to carry out political orders for years.“, she emphasized.

According to Doncheva, the lost legislative capacity of the state must be restored - both in the Ministry of Justice and sectoral ministries, and in the National Assembly.

She also emphasized the method of selecting magistrates. “The distorted competitions and nepotism in the system have become intolerable.”, said Tatyana Doncheva.
