Donka Mihaylova: BSP offers a new model – sustainable policies instead of piecemeal benefits

Progressive taxation, housing policy and decentralization are among the main priorities of the left

“The campaign feels new energy and a desire for change in the BSP.“, said the deputy chairwoman of the party and mayor of Troyan Donka Mihaylova in the program “From the Day“ on BNT. According to her, restoring trust goes through integrity and real policies with a long-term effect for citizens.

She emphasized that the party is going through a process of renewal – both in terms of leadership and the content of policies. “It is not just about new faces, but about new ideas and a different approach to people's problems.“, Mihaylova pointed out.

According to her, the current model, which relies mainly on social payments to individual groups, does not lead to lasting change. “We need to look for solutions that create sustainability - economic and social.“, she said.

As an example, Donka Mihaylova pointed to the growing pressure from high fuel prices and the effect on business and services. According to her, meetings with carriers, entrepreneurs and representatives of the tourism sector show a real risk of layoffs and contraction of activity. In this regard, the BSP proposes reducing VAT for certain goods, lowering excise duties and measures to preserve employment.

Mihaylova also emphasized the need to change the tax model by introducing progressive taxation. “The rich must contribute more in order to have resources to deal with crises.“, she emphasized, specifying that according to the party's calculations, this could bring significant additional revenue to the budget.

Among the priorities, she also highlighted an active housing policy for young people. “The most serious problem related to demography in the municipality of Troyan is housing for young families.“, Mihaylova pointed out, emphasizing that the lack of affordable housing prevents the retention of specialists and young families in smaller municipalities.

The Deputy Chairman of the Bulgarian Socialist Party also emphasized decentralization as a key reform for the development of the regions. According to her, the current model limits the ability of local authorities to respond adequately to the needs of the people “Today, Bulgarian municipalities are piggy banks – they receive funds and distribute them indiscriminately.“, Mihaylova said.

According to her, greater financial independence of local authorities and incentives for the development of the local economy are needed. “Municipalities that create infrastructure and attract investments must be able to retain part of the generated resource and use it according to the real needs of the people.“, emphasized Mihaylova.

In conclusion, she called for support for the left-wing representation: “Vote so that Bulgaria has its worthy left-wing socialist party in the Bulgarian parliament with number 5.".
