Assoc. Prof. Borislav Tsekov: There is no battle "to change the status quo", but there is an internal struggle within the political status quo itself

According to Assoc. Prof. Tsekov, the biggest question is not so much the battle for first place, but whether any of the formations that are around and below the line will manage to overcome it. This would change the picture

At this stage, there is no data and reason to believe that there is an emergence of a new alternative that can "sweep away" the status quo. This was commented on in the program "The Day Live" on Nova News by constitutionalist Assoc. Prof. Borislav Tsekov. "It is also evident from the course of the campaign, which is quite sluggish, unideological, at a very low political level. The reason is that we do not have new players to present new ideas," Assoc. Prof. Tsekov believes.

According to him, all the individuals have been in politics for years and have simply regrouped and given themselves different labels. “These are people who we have seen what and how much they can do, they have governed the country”, commented the lawyer. According to him, this campaign does not provide fresh energy and whether the gap between the first and second will be shortened depends on the nature of the campaign until election day.
According to Assoc. Prof. Tsekov, the biggest question is not so much the battle for the first place, but whether any of the formations that are around and below the line will manage to overcome it. This would change the picture, the associate professor was categorical. According to him, there is a redistribution, but there is no massive attraction of new voters. “This is the most indicative that there is no battle “changing the status quo”, but there is an internal struggle within the political status quo itself, which has existed in the country for years”, said the constitutionalist.

He also commented that it would be good if the increased activity of the Ministry of Interior at the moment was not just “pre-election smoke”, but that after it there were real consequences and pre-trial proceedings initiated.

“Some extremely bad relapses are visible at times. The Ministry of Interior has allowed itself to demand from the election administration lists with the personal data of the members of the section election commissions. They have no right under the law and the CEC promptly rejected these illegal requests. But this suggests “policemanship” of the old type, which, contrary to the active desire of the caretaker government, could repel voters, because an atmosphere of fear is being instilled. This is probably not malicious, but is due to incompetence. Such behavior can discredit the elections”, Assoc. Prof. Tsekov was categorical.

Regarding the agreement with Ukraine, he commented that in terms of content this is a correct action, but it was taken “on the spur of the moment” and without the appropriate degree of coordination. According to him, the fact that this is an interim government, but is signing a long-term agreement, was not taken into account. “There is a possibility that this decision will be considered unconstitutional because of the way it was taken. This would have very bad consequences for the authority of Bulgaria. That is precisely why caretaker governments are not assigned to take such actions”, commented Assoc. Prof. Tsekov.
