The construction of the new prison in Samoranovo is progressing

The Minister of Justice Maria Pavlova visited the new prison complex in the village of Samoranovo in Dupnik. Before the completion of the construction and installation works, the Minister of Justice checked how the finishing works are going on the most ambitious project of the Ministry of Justice and the General Directorate “Implementation of punishments” (GDIN).

In Samoranovo, hard work is being done on the completion of the new pilot prison for 400 prisoners, the training center for 100 employees of the State Police, a new transition department, a school, work workshops, a social center, an administrative building, etc. The Chief Director of the State Department of Internal Affairs, Ch. Commissioner Ivaylo Yordanov stated that the site contractor provided nearly 200 workers to work on the ten buildings and to improve the overall infrastructure of the area.

At the suggestion of the Norwegian side, the work on the introduction of new staff training methods and new programs for working with prisoners will continue in the coming months. It is expected that the new prison will house its first inmates when all the new procedures, staff training and security testing are carried out and put in place. The process will be assisted and monitored by the Norwegian Correctional Service.
