We have asked Eurostat to come and inspect the work of the NSI, because people like Asen Vassilev tried to wait for a window of time so that they could lower the inflation criterion with a little pressure and Bulgaria could enter the Eurozone from January 1, 2025. That won't happen. This was stated by the metropolitan municipal councilor from “Vazrazhdane” Deyan Nikolov in front of journalists in the parliament.

He recalled that in June, Sofia is about to receive the regular convergence report of the European Central Bank, which will show that our country does not meet the criteria and the door to the Eurozone will remain closed from January 1, 2025.

„What the Euro-Atlantic parties will most likely try to do is to ask for an extraordinary convergent report to which every country is entitled. We could ask for one next year, but they wanted to do it in the fall, when inflation might be below the relevant values, but this is unlikely to happen, Nikolov added.

He explained that there is also a problem with the budget deficit.

The policy led by Asen Vassilev led to structural problems with the budget, and I have information that it is very likely that Eurostat will calculate that for 2023 the deficit on a cash basis of Bulgaria was not below 3 percent, he pointed out.

When asked when Bulgaria will be ready to enter the Eurozone, Deyan Nikolov replied that this could happen “after 2043.
