"In most cases in the past, when a prime minister has also held the position of foreign minister, we notice intelligent persons. The practice of combining the two fasts is widespread enough that it does not become a curiosity today. It's not a precedent. The more people are outraged that even now Bulgaria has a prime minister who combines the two posts, they simply do not know their history." This is what he said in the show “This Saturday and Sunday” on bTV the historian Prof. Petar Stoyanovich.
In his words, the people who combined both posts were well prepared, mostly in Western universities.
"Between the 19th and 20th centuries, the reasons for this reconciliation to occur are many. We have very long periods where the prime minister was also foreign minister, such as the entire World War. And yet, there is no direct connection between the success of a policy and whether the Prime Minister combines the two positions," added Stojanovic.
According to him, today's foreign policy is becoming part of a block, of an entire world trend.
"The possibility of foreign policy having the weight it had 120 years earlier is impossible. "Seemingly small topics are increasingly on the agenda," the professor emphasized.
"In Bulgaria, there is a big problem with who is what. Ever since the creation of the Bulgarian parties, everyone is named in a certain way, but to what extent is there, for example, classical conservatism in the actual activity of the party? In Bulgaria, classical conservatism has never existed, there is no real conservative party, there is no classical conservative voter," he added.
Stojanovic emphasized as a big problem the fact that more "simpler and unprepared people enter public life".
"The quality of the people who enter and become the face of the state is becoming more and more shoddy. "Instead of raising the level with good coffee, we offer more and more second filter", said the historian.
