Ivaylo Iliev on the start of the parliament: We saw white smoke, but mixed with black soot

Do we realize that we went to the elections to have a victory for GERB, but an expert office of ITN, asks the political scientist

Expected the start of the 50th anniversary National Assembly was stormy. He said this in an interview for the show "Newsroom". on Radio "Focus" the young political scientist Ivaylo Iliev.

"We also had Déjà vu from the previous 48th Parliament, when we again reached a deadlock with the election of the Speaker. Now on the second day we saw white smoke, but it seems to me that it was mixed with black soot. The election of the Speaker of the National Assembly is not necessarily a sign of the formation of a future ruling majority. Even the very comparison with the 48th Parliament should end with the case we had then – we reached the election of Vezhdi Rashidov as chairman. Then we did not have a broadcast government, we went to new elections. Such are the requests at the moment – yes, we have an elected president, but the negotiations are clearly hitting a snag.

I do not find the answers to several questions in the first days of the National Assembly: Why party leaders, such as Mr. Boyko Borisov, Mr. Delyan Peevski, Mr. Toshko Yordanov, continue to deal with the third largest political force /"We continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria" - note ed./, after making every effort to suppress this coalition? And now they don't want to take power. On the other hand, I wonder why specifically Boyko Borisov wants to govern only with PP-DB, maybe he is looking for some kind of legitimation. I also wonder why he deliberately sabotaged the previous regular government that would have been with his prime minister. These questions were not answered in the first days of the new parliament," he explained.

"I don't see the humility that the results of the past elections should cause. The politicians did not read the sign that the voter gave them by showing them a yellow card, and obviously a red will follow if they continue with such rhetoric and behavior. Even in the hours after the election of the president, they again continued with sharp accusations and attacks, part of the parliamentary groups pushing him along. If we draw the line, only one party leader withdrew completely / Hristo Ivanov – note, ed./, and internal processes took place in the BSP, but overall the major formations kept their leaders, and they, in turn, are already starting to look for agreements for a future majority," commented Iliev.

According to him, at the moment GERB-SDS-DPS-"There is such a people" seems like the only possible formula to produce a majority.

"Despite the categorical positions of Slavi Trifonov from the last few days that he will not enter the government, I still have a doubt whether this discord and sharp positions, both on the part of ITN, and this intransigence on the part of GERB , are not some well-directed scene. On the one hand – ITN to raise its price for coming into power, and on the other hand – to enrich the narrative about how incompetent the opposition is, that is, to once again focus the spotlight on the PP-DB. Third – maybe we should pretend there is no "elephant in the room" or maybe even two elephants", commented the young political scientist.

"From ITN's request for the implementation of the third mandate, it seems to me that Slavi Trifonov is already playing for President Rumen Radev. I am convinced that if we come to the last mandate, it will surely fall into the hands of "There is such a people". However, this will mean that we will be in a situation of failed first and second terms. Hence the other question – what will be the theses of Borisov and Peevski to finish their story about how others are to blame for new elections instead of them. And have no doubt that if we reach the third term, new elections are at least 90% certain, the political scientist predicts.

"Do we realize that we went to elections, as a result of which we are on the verge of having a GERB victory, but an expert office of "There is such a people", asked Ivaylo Iliev.
