Svetoslav Terziev: The vote for Ursula von der Leyen will show the distribution of powers in the EP

The re-election of Mezzola is not a surprise, said the international analyst

„The re-election of Roberta Mezzola as President of the European Parliament was not a surprise, as as she did a good job last term and that's why no other candidates came forward. There was no serious dispute.“

This is what the journalist and international analyst Svetoslav Terziev said in the Euronews Primetime studio. He recalled that there is an arrangement between the two leading political families in Europe – The EPP and the Socialists, to alternate the post between the two largest political forces.

According to Terziev, the vote on Ursula von der Leyen's candidacy on Thursday will show the real distribution of power in the European Parliament.

„Ursula von der Leyen herself has toured all the political groups in the last week, as well as this one. She respected them, listened to them and made so many promises that she won't be able to fulfill them in a few more terms, the analyst believes.

„The MEPs themselves in the various groups are not so united along party lines. They have other interests. They represent their countries, their economies, and it is not clear in the secret ballot how much party discipline will be respected. There is a greater uncertainty. In this vote, the first real measurement of power in the European Parliament will take place”, the journalist explained.
