Andrey Kovachev was elected as a Quaestor of the European Parliament

The MEP will be the only Bulgarian in the leadership of the Parliament for this term

Bulgarian MEP Andrey Kovachev (EPP/GERB) was elected today as one of the five new Quaestors of the European Parliament. He will be the only Bulgarian in the leadership of the parliament for this mandate. Kovachev's election took place during the first ballot, where he received the most votes - 559 out of 669 cast and 641 actual votes, with the required majority being 321 votes.

Besides Andrey Kovachev, Mark Angel (SiD, Luxembourg), Miriam Lexman (EPP, Slovakia), Fabien Keller (“Renew Europe”, France) and Kosma Zlotowski (ECR, Poland) were also elected quaestors of the European Parliament. . The election of the new quaestors took place in two stages, with MEPs voting twice for their appointment.

The quaestors in the European Parliament have an important role in the management of the institution. They deal with administrative matters that directly affect MEPs and have an advisory voice in the Bureau of the Parliament. The Bureau of the European Parliament, which includes the President, 14 Vice-Presidents and five Quaestors, is responsible for setting the Parliament's rules of procedure. In addition, the Bureau prepares the preliminary draft budget of the EP and makes decisions on administrative, personnel and organizational issues.
