A family from Lithuania paid nearly BGN 1,500 for an examination of their sick child in a private office at a Golden Sands hotel. This is what a friend of the foreigners told on Facebook.
"Hello!!! My friends and guests from Lithuania in k.k. Golden Sands, used the services of a doctor at a local hotel to examine their child. After examining the child and prescribing medication, they paid the huge sum of BGN 1,494. They were told that if they paid in cash it would cost 20% less. They were not asked for a European Health Card and were not warned in advance that the price would be so high and ca used that they were under the influence of stress in a foreign country. I am asking for legal advice and who to contact to protect their rights. Apparently we want to self-destruct what little tourism we have left. Thanks in advance!!!", he wrote.
Pictures of the invoices and receipts from the review have been uploaded to the publication. From the comments under the post, it is clear that the family will file a complaint with consumer protection.
The case before the "Focus" Agency commented the medical law lawyer Maria Sharkova, who stated that in the absence of a contract with the NHIF, the medical facility is not obliged to require a European health card, as everything is paid according to the price list.
"In Bulgaria, there is no price ceiling or any regulation to limit the prices that medical institutions can set when the patient is not treated according to the order introduced by the NHIF,", she explained.
