VAS: Andrey Gyurov's request for the impeachment of Georgi Cholakov is groundless

According to the judges, Gyurov's statements in connection with public statements of politician Hristo Ivanov are based on subjective perceptions, without being related to specific circumstances that objectively give rise to reasonable doubts about the impartiality of the chairman of the panel, Georgi Cholakov

The judicial panel in the case against the removal of Andrey Gyurov as deputy governor of the BNB, unanimously rejected his request for the impeachment of judge Georgi Cholakov, who is also the chairman of the Supreme Administrative Court (YOU). According to the magistrates, it is unfounded, the press center of the Supreme Court reported.

According to the judges, Gyurov's statements in connection with the public statements of politician Hristo Ivanov are based on subjective perceptions, without being related to specific circumstances that objectively give rise to reasonable doubts about the impartiality of the chairman of the panel, Georgi Cholakov.

The Supreme Court also responded to the criticism of the distribution of the Cholakov case by noting that the cases that are subject to consideration in open court sessions are randomly distributed among the judges who are assigned to be on duty in the respective week.

Earlier today, Gyurov stated during the hearing on the case that there are doubts about the impartiality of Georgi Cholakov, which are derived from Hristo Ivanov's statement before the parliamentary committee on Martin Bojanov – The notary and Petyo Petrov – The euro. Then Ivanov spoke about possible relations between Delyan Peevski and the chairman of the Supreme Administrative Court, Georgi Cholakov. According to Gyurov, in front of the commission and in a televised appearance, Ivanov stated that during conversations with Delyan Peevski, he was interested in what would happen to the chairman of the VAS and what his career development would be.

On June 27, the Commission for Combating Corruption notified the BNB of a decision issued, with which it established incompatibility with regard to Andrey Gyurov, deputy manager, head of the "Issuance" department.

Then, on July 16, the BNB announced that until the court and the parliament decide whether Andrey Gyurov can be the deputy governor in charge of the "Issuance" department and a member of the Management Board of the Bulgarian National Bank, he stops exercising his powers.
