What is the development with the mysterious sarcophagus, which was discovered on the beach in the resort of St. St. Constantine and Elena at the end of last month? Scientists from the historical museum in the city have established that the sarcophagus is authentic. The topic on the air of "Hello, Bulgaria" commented archaeologist Alexander Minchev.

"Part of the sarcophagus has been cleaned. It actually dates from the II-III century, i.e. is roman. I must emphasize that it was made in Bulgaria, in the Northwest between Pleven and Vidin," said the archaeologist.

In his words, the ornamentation is very characteristic and rich, in high relief, which shows the skills of good craftsmen. According to him, there are two possible explanations for the painting of the sarcophagus by the owners of the establishment where it was spotted – to disguise its authenticity or to give it a more modern look.

"It is made of shelly limestone, characteristic of Northern Bulgaria," Minchev explained.
