Atanas Radev: DPS will suffer electoral damage

The electoral system is not the fault of the politicians for not being able to reach a consensus, said the political scientist

What is happening in the DPS may be to the advantage of the others political subjects.

This is what he told "Focus" the political scientist Atanas Radev. According to him, DPS will suffer electoral damage in the upcoming elections.

"With the image that Delyan Peevski has in Bulgarian politics and with the image of Ahmed Dogan – it is a double-headed eagle. In order for one or the other to continue to function, a head must be cut off. What we are seeing right now is that DPS, the DPS brand, is being bled. That's the big question. How Dogan will appear in the elections with this Alliance will be a very interesting case study, but in my opinion, the whole story around DPS is in favor of systemic political players. Only GERD has a known breakthrough in the mixed areas. Now the systemic political players have the chance to enter there and there will be real pluralism," he explained.

"What is happening in the DPS resembles the political process in the country as a whole. Identical things are happening in the other political subjects as well, with the difference, however, that the DPS has been a systemic player for 34 years in Bulgarian politics," Radev added.

According to him, the BSP did not permanently close the "Cornelia Ninova" page: "The fact that Mrs. Ninova left means absolutely nothing. In those 8 years that she was the party chairman, she made a big turn to the right space with these nationalist stories. Now the big problem in BSP is precisely in this direction – about her identity, about her positioning on the left and about the conversation about left-wing policies", Atanas Radev also commented.

As for the new left unity, he explained: "These are people, just as Tatiana Doncheva recently called them "old muzzles". There's nothing wrong with having some "old noses" to shed some light on what left-wing politics is, because the course is a bit off.

According to Atanas Radev, the upcoming elections will be radically different from the previous ones. The reason is that there are upheavals in almost all parties.

After October 27, GERB will once again be responsible for the first mandate. Boyko Borisov is now preparing the ground – who will say what and who will yield. The formula "gentleman's agreement" is inactive. You have to sit on a different plane because the state is not functioning. With the offices, with the ventilations that happen in the administration, and with the policy cycle, the processes are blocked. In order for the system to work, they must form a systemic consensus," Radev also commented.

According to the political scientist, there is no need to change the electoral system: "The electoral system is wonderful, it represents the whole society. Therefore, the electoral system is not to blame for the political parties not being able to reach a consensus.

Atanas Radev expects the leitmotif of the upcoming election campaign to be internal political divisions.
