Glavchev in New York: Let's modernize and rejuvenate the UN

Prime Minister speaks at the Future Summit

„We need to modernize and rejuvenate the United Nations to ensure that it remains relevant and able to meet the challenges of the 21st century. This also includes reforming the Security Council to better reflect current global realities. Bulgaria is for the promotion of international cooperation and joint work to achieve our common goals. Let us unite around cooperation and act decisively. Let's not disappoint the young and future generations”.

This message was delivered by Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev during the Summit for the Future in New York, the government press center reported, NOVA reported.

The forum is the main event during the so-called A high-level UN week in which heads of state and government from around the world participate. In honor of today's official holiday - Bulgaria's Independence Day, Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev delivered his speech in Bulgarian.

Glavchev specifically emphasized the ambitious Pact for the Future, which embodies almost 80 years of multilateral and national experience, aiming for a safer, more sustainable and fairer world. “The basis of these efforts is the rule of law, which is essential for the observance of international norms, justice and the promotion of global cooperation," Glavchev pointed out and also emphasized the importance of observing human rights.

The impact of new technologies was also the focus of the speech of the Bulgarian Prime Minister. “We are aware of the challenges of digital inequality and advocate for increasing investments in digital skills and for rapid adaptation to technological changes,", noted Glavchev. The Prime Minister expressed support for the Global Digital Compact, which strives for a human-centered, rights-based digital future that uses artificial intelligence to drive progress and ensure information integrity.

„We must include the views and interests of young people in our policies, actively listening to them,", Glavchev added. “We support the special Declaration for future generations, we follow the National Youth Strategy in order to engage and empower young people in shaping the future both in Europe and globally," said the Bulgarian Prime Minister.

Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev heartily thanked UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres for organizing the Summit for the Future. According to the Prime Minister, the current initiative is of great importance given complex problems such as Russia's aggression against Ukraine, conflicts in the Middle East, Africa and other parts of the world, the progressing achievement of the sustainable development goals, the climate crisis and continuing inequalities, also transmit from the government press office.
