Until 12:00 today, May 8, parents will have the opportunity to apply for admission of their children to the respective kindergarten or nurseries. They need to enter current address data and declare advantages by criteria in their profiles.
The first general ranking will take place on May 9, 2025 under civil control. There will be two subsequent general rankings - on May 23 and June 6.
Over 13,000 places for admission to kindergartens and nurseries in Sofia announced when the system opens in March.
An additional 1,170 are open for admission by the end of 2025. in three new kindergartens and seven newly built buildings at existing kindergartens, the Sofia Municipality reports.
A total of 5,575 of the places are in independent nurseries or nursery groups in kindergartens, 5,576 places are for the 1st kindergarten group in kindergartens, 1,717 places in preschool groups in municipal schools and 221 places for children born in 2021, 2020 and 2019.
By the end of the year, three more completely new kindergartens are to be put into operation - in the “Karpuzitsa" area, “Vitosha" region for seven groups (two nurseries and five kindergartens); in the “Strelbishte“ quarter, “Triaditsa" region for eight groups (two nurseries and six kindergartens) and in the „Oborishte“ district for eight groups (two nurseries and six kindergartens) or a total of 591 new places in six new nurseries groups with 132 places and 17 new kindergarten groups.
The new places for the kindergarten in the „Strelbishte“ district will be announced for classification in August this year, the Municipality said.
The construction of new buildings for seven more kindergartens in the „Mladost“, „Izgrev“, „Lozenets“, „Vitosha“ districts is at an advanced stage. and “Novi Iskar“, which are expected to open their doors by the end of the year and will provide 22 new groups (three nurseries and 19 kindergartens) or a total of 579 new places in kindergartens on the territory of Sofia Municipality in 66 nurseries and 513 kindergarten groups.
During the current school year, from September 2024 to the present, another 583 children were announced and respectively classified in additional newly opened groups, the Sofia Municipality indicated. Currently, 46,236 children are being raised, educated, trained and socialized in municipal kindergartens and independent nurseries, and 1,907 children are in preparatory groups in municipal schools, or a total of 48,143 children, the Municipality added.
The Sofia Municipality will open over 4,300 new places in the period 2025-2027 with the construction of new ones, upgrading and expanding existing childcare facilities, with financing provided with its own funds and included in the capital program of Sofia and external financing, the announcement states.
Around 10,000 places are not enough in nurseries and kindergartens in Sofia this year, said Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev in the program “Wake Up“ on Nova TV. Kindergartens and nurseries are currently being built and expanded, which will be able to accommodate about 4,500 children in the coming years. Every year the number increases by a thousand and if we do not take quick measures, something that my team and I are working on, there will be a shortage of 8,000-9,000 places again in two or three years, commented the mayor of Sofia.
