EU orders Bulgaria to pay 2 million euros in two cases

The Commission's proposal was for our country to be ordered to pay 1,630,800 euros for each of the violations

The Court of Justice of the European Union has ordered Bulgaria to pay 2 million euros in two cases.

Our country must pay 1 million euros for failure to comply with the deadline for transposing the Directive on Copyright and Related Rights in the Digital Single Market into national legislation, BNR reports.

Another million must be paid for failure to comply with the deadline for transposing the Directive on Copyright and Related Rights, applicable to certain online broadcasts. These two directives aim to modernize copyright rules so that consumers and creators can make the most of the digital world.

The Commission's proposal was for our country to be ordered to pay 1,630,800 euros for each of the violations. Among the Court's arguments for reducing the amount is Bulgaria's solvency. According to the magistrates, a decisive factor should be taken into account is our country's GDP.
