"A very strong decision by President Radev - a referendum on the euro is needed, because a lot of valuable time was lost so that Bulgarian citizens could be familiarized with the adoption of the euro - with all the pros and cons, with all the risks and with all the opportunities that this provides. I want to dispel the suggestion that was made in the first minutes after Rumen Radev's statement by people who had not even heard him, that this was a referendum on rejecting the euro - nothing like that", said Vice President Iliana Yotova in "Panorama".

In her words, the referendum is a way to ask people what they think.

"Let's make the topic that is about to be taken a strategic decision, which is for decades to come for Bulgaria, make it accessible, understandable, and dispel fears. Whether it will happen according to Bulgarian legislation depends on the National Assembly," added Iliyana Yotova.

Krum Zarkov Yotova commented on the resignation of Krum Zarkov as follows: "We live in a free country with a free choice of the people, that's how he decided".

The Vice President called for us to look into Rumen Radev's arguments and the way in which the question was formulated.

There are different ways in which the constitutionality of the referendum can be verified, according to the laws of the country and the Constitution - to reach the people or not, the question arises who is afraid to ask the Bulgarian citizens, said Iliyana Yotova.

According to her, Bulgaria is not setting a precedent.

"Every country is sovereign to decide for itself according to its specifics and according to its interests. And the Bulgarian people must be at the table where decisions are made, and that is why we are proposing a referendum. Holding a referendum does not mean that we are against the euro, on the contrary. A paradox arises that opponents of the referendum believe that if it is held it is doomed to take Bulgaria out of the euro - I am categorically not sure about this thesis", said Iliana Yotova and stated that she does not make a connection with today's date - May 9.
