Protests in Varna and Sofia against animal abuse. They are part of the national discontent provoked by the case in Pernik. In it, the violence against pets was filmed, and the clips were sold on the Internet.
For stricter control and effective punishments for animal abusers. People here in Varna have been demanding this for weeks. And one of the solutions, according to them, is the introduction of zoopolice to the municipality, the idea being to counteract crimes against animals in this way. The protest against violence began at 11 a.m., and then the participants set off on a march, Nova TV reported.
Tatyana Chavdarova is among the adopters of injured animals. She has seen their suffering firsthand. She has adopted several dogs. He shares that sometimes animals become victims by poisoning them.
And in order for something to be done, activists are demanding changes to the law and have been protesting for weeks now.
Stefan Kurdov, co-organizer of the protests against animal cruelty in Varna, says that the Law is of great importance.
"There must be an effective sentence for anyone who commits a crime against an animal, because it cannot defend itself", he adds.
In addition to effective sentences, however, people also want effective zoopolice.
Kurdov points out that this is of utmost importance.
And the Ministry of Interior announced that they are now responding to all signals.
"Checks are carried out on every signal submitted for inhumane treatment of an animal. Depending on whether it constitutes a crime, a request material or pre-trial proceedings are formed, and the remaining signals are transmitted under the competence of the Varna municipality for verification by the relevant services”, points out Chief Insp. Dragostin Todorov - Head of the Public Order Protection Sector at the ODMVR - Varna.
However, people also insist on the introduction of zoopolice to the municipality, which would monitor violations.
„We made an initiative with great support to create a zoopolice. Subscription - over 7,000 people have already supported it. If the society supports it, then the city leadership will support it”, believes Kurdov.
And the municipal administration says that they are in continuous dialogue with the protesters.
„We have a unit that deals with control and sanctions. Employees can be appointed to this unit to carry out this activity. As far as I understand from the citizens who have taken this initiative, they want to have such vigilant citizens appointed - on a contract or as a volunteer activity, to monitor violence and illegal actions against vertebrates. This can happen. We have had several meetings with them”, commented Iliya Koev, Deputy Mayor of Varna Municipality.
And if this happens, Varna will perhaps be the first city in which resources will be allocated to municipal police - to have patrols, which will initially be in the central part, says Kurdov.
