VMRO-BND stood behind President Rumen Radev's initiative to hold a referendum on the adoption of the euro as the official currency. The party believes that the decision whether Bulgaria should adopt the euro cannot be made by compromised politicians, against the will of the people or under external pressure.
VMRO notes that this is an issue of great importance for our economy, national identity and sovereignty. The party points out that the Bulgarian people have the full right to decide this issue through a direct vote. The arrogant attitude of the ruling party, who claim that the people should not and cannot be consulted on this issue, is additional fuel to the burning fire of Euroscepticism, the patriots believe.
According to the VMRO government, elected by the National Assembly with an exceptionally low turnout, is persistently ignoring the people's voice and is actively working on introducing the euro without holding a national referendum. The patriots emphasize that a referendum is the highest form of democracy. The party believes that the ruling party's fear of asking its people forces the conclusion that they are aware of the people's opinion and that the majority does not support their actions.
The position of the VMRO is that the introduction of the euro must be done with a huge public consensus, which is currently lacking.
