Two villages near Sofia were left without a road to the city. The reason is a removed bridge that cuts off the most direct route to the capital.

Residents of the villages of Herakovo, Prolesha and nearby neighborhoods are protesting.

The road that local residents have to travel to Sofia is dangerous. To get on it, you have to commit several violations.

The bridge was removed 6 months ago, probably due to structural violations.

There are also financial losses – there was an investment intention to build a complex of 12 houses, but interest evaporated due to the lack of a road to the capital.

„The removed overpass is a municipal road and passes over the first-class road I-8 Sofia-Kalotina, at the 38th kilometer in the area of the „Kanton“ hamlet of Herakovo. The facility was removed after a commission appointed by the mayor of the Bozhurishte municipality determined it to be dangerous“, states a response from the „Road Infrastructure“ Agency (API) to bTV.

API also explains what is being done to ensure safe traffic in the area.

„In order to increase traffic safety in the area, work is currently underway to change the organization of traffic. It will provide direct access to the village of Herakovo for those traveling from Sofia, and a left-turn lane will be designated. There is an approved project for the change in the organization of traffic and it is expected to be implemented by the end of May,“ the Road Agency specifies.

Residents in the area remind that the facility is of the RIA, and not municipal, and in their opinion the state should invest in a new bridge. They also suggest that a temporary facility be installed.
