The protest of public transport showed that some forceful actions can yield results. The bad thing in this case is that medical workers felt neglected.
This was said in the program "Denyat na Zievo" on NOVA NEWS by former Health Minister Dr. Ilko Semerdzhiev, who commented on the upcoming protest of young medical workers for higher salaries and better working conditions today.
"The fact is that the work of nurses is no less difficult than that of drivers in public transport. Currently, we have fewer nurses than doctors. Doctors themselves take on nursing activities, which also makes their work more difficult. There have been cases where a patient has said - "sister, isn't there a doctor to examine me" because he doesn't understand that he is facing a doctor. The nurses' demand for a 150% salary increase is completely realistic. A doctor cannot receive thousands of leva, and a nurse 1,000 leva. This is a classic outrage. Such a scissors cannot be opened", he was categorical.
"The problem with co-payments in hospitals is big. The fact is that Bulgaria has the lowest health insurance contribution in the entire EU. Commercial negotiations cannot be held at the patient's bedside, the doctor is not there to negotiate, but to treat. The health insurance contribution must be raised. The fear of healthcare reforms is great and this is the reason why these reforms are not happening,", concluded Dr. Ilko Semerdzhiev.
