In his letter to Roberta Metsola, Stanislav Stoyanov expresses concerns that he was not notified of a meeting of the so-called shadow rapporteurs on the report on the accession of the Republic of North Macedonia to the European Union. This meeting is scheduled for this Monday, but the Bulgarian MEP has not received an invitation to it, despite being a shadow rapporteur. This raises serious concerns that a representative of a Member State is deliberately excluding himself from the process.
“It is important to note that even after my previous letter, in which I highlighted a conflict of interest and to which I am still awaiting a response — The violations of ethical standards and the Rules of Procedure of the European Parliament not only continue, but seem to be even getting worse. The Prime Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia has publicly stated that his government has been involved in the preparation of the report for 11 months. In another interview, he commented on draft amendments that have been discussed but are not yet publicly available, revealing sensitive information known only to the shadow rapporteurs.
This shows that an interested party, the subject of a report, not only actively participates in the preparation of its content, but also publicly expresses an opinion on what should and should not be included in the final text. Such interference undermines the independence of the Parliament's work and violates established procedures.”, Stanislav Stoyanov, Head of the “Vazrazhdane” delegation to the European Parliament, Chairman of the “Europe of Sovereign Nations” party, states in his letter. and Deputy Chairman of the parliamentary group of "Europe of Sovereign Nations".
According to Stoyanov, the line of admissibility has long been crossed. New and new circumstances are emerging. The report and the concerns surrounding its preparation are causing growing public and political interest in Bulgaria.
He reminds Metsola that on Friday the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria unanimously adopted a declaration on the issue, and public attention to the topic is extremely high. As a member of the European Parliament, Stoyanov emphasizes that he has the responsibility to inform both Bulgarian and European citizens about the way this report is being prepared and the irregularities in the process, which is why he believes that the adoption of the report should be postponed until the completion of a full and independent verification of all the facts.
More information on the topic will be presented at a press conference by Kostadin Kostadinov - Chairman of “Vazrazhdane”, which will be held on June 3, 2025 at the headquarters of “Vazrazhdane” in Varna, at: 36 “Tsar Osvoboditel” Blvd. at 1:00 p.m. and will be broadcast live on the social network Facebook, on the page of Kostadin Kostadinov - https://www.facebook.com/kostadin.eu.
