An order signed by the Minister of Education has worried BNT viewers, the media reported.
It concerns the approval of a schedule of activities for providing free use of textbooks for 7th, 8th and 9th grades in the subject Religion - non-confessional education for the new school year.
However, Krasimir Valchev explained to BNT that these are old curricula, emphasizing that there has been no change in the law yet.
The concerns turned out to be unfounded, since the subject for which the order was issued is part of the optional preparation.
"We still have no change in the law, it has not even been submitted to the National Assembly. We do not have new curricula, these are the older curricula, respectively under the Special Educational Service for Religion. Currently, procedures are being conducted every year, nothing new," explained Krasimir Valchev, Minister of Education and Science.
"These textbooks have been approved under the current curricula and are only for elective and optional classes, which are still taught where there are those who wish to study them. It is nothing new, it is simply a natural continuation of the previous classes, which is completely normal," pointed out Danko Kalapish, director of the 107th Primary School "Khan Krum", Sofia.
In non-denominational education, a specific religion is not studied, but the history and philosophy of religions are taught, experts explain.
"And the so-called religious doctrine, but simply children are introduced to all sorts of different philosophical, historical, if you will, and even theological aspects of different religions, the different virtues of different religions, the different history of religions, the different religious philosophy," said Danko Kalapish, principal of the 107th Primary School "Khan Krum", Sofia.
The public discussion on the introduction of the subject Virtues and Religions in Bulgarian schools is until June 23. The bill will probably be submitted to parliament at the end of the month or the beginning of the next.
