„The Anti-Corruption Commission is tied to receiving funds under the Recovery Plan from the European Commission. This plan, as well as the legislative program that we promised, have been approved and are not subject to revision, which means that if we as a country refuse to join the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), we will not have formally met the criteria and we will not receive the money. That is why Peevski is counting on tearing a shirt and saying, since you are doing PR - here, I insist on closing it. But he insists on closing it because he knows that no one will vote for this closure. Peevski's insistence is some kind of rather false theatricality that relies on people not knowing such details", said journalist Polina Paunova in the program "Politically Incorrect" on Bulgarian National Radio. According to her, "whether Peevski will take control of the MRF, which has actually already happened, is not the primary issue of the state".
On Peevski's influence
"The question is to what extent he controls the judicial machinery in Bulgaria. Because we are hardly talking only about the prosecutor's office, about appointing chief prosecutors, influence through the Supreme Judicial Council. Here we are also talking about a court, about this new formation - the CPC. Here we are talking about a complete takeover of the judicial system, which is different from the prosecutor's office, because before we said to ourselves - okay, he can control the prosecutor's office, but our hope is in the independent court, in the arbitrator. If we lose hope in the arbitrator, we have lost everything. From this point of view, there are certainly honorable judges with integrity who do their job conscientiously, but it already seems that we are losing the battle for the court as well. If a society does not have an independent arbitrator, it has nothing, nothing to stand on, no solid ground“, the journalist further explained.
On voting with Peevski and the KPK
According to Poli Paunova, voting with Peevski does not put anyone to the test except the PPDB.
„BSP voted with Peevski, ITN voted with Peevski, Borisov is completely dependent. That is, we see some formations in this National Assembly that are completely dependent on Peevski's vote. The government depends on Peevski. And we are all concerned with whether the PPDB would vote with Peevski to close the CPC.“
Polina Paunova's opinion is that the CPC should be closed:
„The actions that the CPC carries out - then we pay many times more compensation with our taxes for what the CPC does. The more places such powers are scattered, the more uncontrolled this whole thing becomes. That is why we can most calmly focus again only on the Bulgarian prosecutor's office. It works like the CPC anyway, there is no need to be distracted.“
„The question is whether there are any remaining political parties in Bulgaria that can tell themselves, and in a completely reasonable and mature way, that corruption is actually Bulgaria's biggest problem. We need a mature political conversation that points out what evil is and that is a political matter. And when it is pointed out, we need to come up with some concrete steps on how to neutralize this evil, because everything else is essay writing.“
On addictions
„Real addictions actually seem to be driving the entire political process in Bulgaria. Not since now. Because if this process were not driven by real addictions, we would have moved a little since 2013, right? The only thing we have moved, by the way, is that in 2013, Borisov, when asked what Delyan Peevski is like, said that he was just a deputy. Now the configuration has changed and now Borisov is talking about himself as just a deputy. In my opinion, it seems that he himself has already changed the balance of power in his own eyes. He is just a deputy.“
What is happening in GERB and should Borisov worry about his party
„Appetite comes with eating. We see a powerful political appetite on the part of the New Beginning. When a party is in power, as GERB is currently, it does not make sudden moves regarding changing structures, leaders. Such a sudden move can have two explanations - one is really the question that is being raised by political analysts, namely, is Peevski warning Borisov? The other option, in my opinion, is for Peevski and Borisov to act in sync, doing something for GERB," the journalist commented on the change in the leadership of the GERB structure in the Varna district "Odessos."
According to Polina Paunova, Borisov is no longer the central figure in Bulgarian political life:
„The central figure in political life is called Delyan Peevski. He is not Boyko Borisov.“
„In 2013, DANSwithMe was mainly dedicated to Peevski. In the midst of the protests, the Constitutional Court granted Peevski an indulgence to continue as an MP. And nothing came of the protests. Then in 2020, there were protests against Borisov and Peevski's prosecutor's office - nothing happened. Now, in 2025, if anything has worried Peevski - no.“
On the embraces of the DPS
„Any demonstration of political closeness with the DPS - old beginning and - new beginning, means nothing, because the rug will be pulled at some point. I don't know what Borisov, the DPS and There Is Such a People will rely on. They will be used politically. Maybe after that once again, because they will still have to form a government. But all the time it is about the personal survival of people, and this personal survival goes through the body of the state, because it practically runs over all independent institutions.“
On the responsibility of the democratic community
„It is not small. Including for the Anti-Corruption Commission for its powers. This was not so long ago and the democratic community should realize that it was involved in this. We should clearly realize that the representation of the democratic community often sets its own traps, because it tries to outplay Borisov and Peevski on their terrain. They cannot be outplayed there on this terrain, including on the terrain of PR. This is a field on which the game is currently dominated by Peevski and Borisov, and this field should be played more maturely. And they were trying to do it with the methods imposed by Borisov and Peevski.“
