“The problem with water scarcity in our country is not a natural fact, but artificially created by years of inaction and intentional negligence.“ This was stated in an interview with the Bulgarian National Radio by the MP from "Vazrazhdane" Angel Slavchev, a member of the Committee on Environment and Water and the Temporary Committee on Water Scarcity.
According to him, over 260 thousand people in 16 cities and 283 villages are already living under a water regime, while those in power over the past 15 years have not only not proposed strategic solutions, but now They are even creating a "national water board", a body that, according to Slavchev, is just another form of blinding. "Instead of having an active expert council at the ministries, which would offer real solutions, an artificial structure without a vision is being created. Strategic measures should have started a long time ago, and not, as the people say, "after the rain comes a hood".," he also emphasized.
The people's representative from "Vazrazhdane" recalled that the Water Deficiency Commission had been in session for six months and had listened to hundreds of experts and citizens. The report was ready on July 3 and was supposed to enter the plenary hall by the end of the month, but this did not happen. "Someone is obviously worried about this report, because it clearly states where the problems are and who is responsible," commented Angel Slavchev.
He gave a specific example of Pleven, where the water problem has been known for years: “Everyone knows about it, but some ministries are inactive because the goal is clear - to absorb money. This indifference is deliberately created“.
On the air, he also commented on the role of the ruling parties in parliament: “GERB are indebted to society because of the broken water and sanitation infrastructure. Borisov is losing positions, Peevski is giving ideas, proclaiming them through the media, and GERB MPs are supporting them. “Vazrazhdane“ will not be a crutch for Peevski and his factional parties.“, the MP was categorical.
“There is money, there is also know-how. The question is to have will and transparency, because otherwise we will continue to wade in water, and walk thirsty.“, concluded Angel Slavchev from “Renaissance”.
