A robbery of a goldsmith's workshop in Sofia has been revealed, in which nearly 1.8 kilograms of gold jewelry worth about 340,000 leva were stolen. The crime was committed on May 15 last year by three masked men. The detainees are 21, 25 and 34 years old. Two of them have been convicted.

According to the SDVR, the perpetrators acted in an organized manner, using a stolen car to arrive at the scene. After the robbery, they set it on fire to cover their tracks. Two of them broke the shop windows and took the gold jewelry, while the third secured the retreat.

“All operational methods were used, including special intelligence means, to collect sufficient evidence“, said Chief Commissioner Lyubomir Nikolov of the SDVR. The investigation shows that the motive for the robbery was the defendants' large debts, which had to be paid off in a short period of time.

They were detained for a period of up to 72 hours, and the prosecutor's office has filed requests for permanent arrest. The crime is punishable by 5 to 15 years of imprisonment and confiscation of part of the property.
