The Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation are holding an emergency meeting in Doha. Hamas wants sancti

The reason for the meeting is the September 9 attack on members of the radical group's leadership in the Qatari capital

Doha An emergency summit of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation will be held in Doha.

The reason for its convening was the September 9 attack by Israel on members of the Hamas leadership, who were in one of the Palestinian movement's residences in Doha. According to the Qatari side, a security officer was killed and several others were injured.

Hamas denied media reports that members of its negotiating delegation had been killed, admitting that five members of the group had been killed in the attack, including the son of the movement's leader in the Gaza Strip, Khalil al-Hayy.

According to the head of government and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, the authorities consider this attack an act of state terrorism. According to him, the attack was carried out at a time when Hamas leaders are discussing the latest US proposal for resolving the conflict in the Gaza Strip. In an interview with CNN, Sheikh Mohammed said Qatar was reassessing its role in mediating in the Gaza Strip, stressing that Israel's attack had destroyed any hope of freeing Israeli hostages held by Hamas in the Palestinian enclave.

Hamas expressed hope that a decision would be made at the summit of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in the Qatari capital Doha to form an international coalition to put pressure on Israel. An open letter on the subject was published on the radicals' Telegram channel.

“We expect urgent measures to be taken to achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, including the formation of an international alliance whose members could put pressure on Israel and its allies“, the document said. Hamas's leadership called on Arab leaders to “implement the provisions of the Mutual Defense Treaty“ of the Arab League and impose “comprehensive sanctions“ against Israel. The movement is convinced that Israel's recent attack on Doha proves that the authorities of the Jewish state “do not seek a ceasefire and mutual release of prisoners“, but on the contrary, “want to hinder the mediation mission“ of Qatar.
